Hi. I’m Francesca Dowdeswell, and I want to be a writer.

In some ways, I already am. I write every day and have had two short stories published. My dream, however, is to publish a full on real novel.
This blog is far from that, but it’s an outlet to get these thoughts out of my head and connect with people who hopefully one day will be reading more than just blog posts.
I want to start this blog old school: the get to know me tag. I’ve edited the questions to be more book-ish and talk a little about what I’m writing.
1. What is Your Name?
Francesca Dowdeswell. A mouth full, I know. Might need to shorten it to fit on book spines.
2. What book are you currently reading?
I always have at least two books on the go. My current physical read is The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. As I write this, I’m listening to the audiobook for Five Survive by Holly Jackson.

3. What genres do you like to write?
I love fantasy, historical and poetry. My current WIP is a murder mystery.
4. Where do you like to write?
There’s lots of independent cafes in and around the town I live in. I recently spent some time in Amid Giants and Idols and it was amazing.
5. What do you listen to when you write?
I make a playlist for every story idea I have. Here’s a playlist to give you the vibe of what I’m currently writing.
6. What is the last book you bought?
The Names by Florence Knapp. It was my book club pick and I really enjoyed it! Definitely a great book to discuss over coffee.
7. What’s your bad writing habit?
Editing as I go. I’m trying a new thing where I get everything down first and waiting until I finish to go over it. Is my draft messy as hell, yes, but it exists so that’s something.
8. If you could live in any fictional world, what would it be?
So. Many. Answers. I have to say Percy Jackson, but I wouldn’t survive very long. Maybe I’d live in Gilmore Girls for some peace and quiet.
9. What sort of characters do you like writing?
The messier the better. I like spending time working out my characters interests and mannerisms. Here’s a mood board I made for my main charact.

10. What can you say about your WIP?
It’s a cosy murder mystery centred around a spiritual group. I’m no doubt going to talk about this book a lot, so I’ll leave it there for now.
So that’s me, or more accurately that’s my work. I’ve got a long way to go, so if you want to join me on this journey, please follow me on Instagram @francescadowdeswell, and I hope to see you back on the blog soon!
