I am not a book reviewer, but as someone who is working on their debut novel I obviously love reading. The whole reason I do what I do is the impact left on me by all the authors I’ve read over the years, so I want to mark this year of reading by doing a BookTube classic: The Mid-Year Freak Out Tag.

My reading is as big as a part of my life as my writing. I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump this year because of all the other things going on in my life, and there’s so many books I haven’t read yet this year that I really wanted to get to.

However, when I look at the books I have read so far this year, it makes me really excited to continue reading. So, as someone who has spent most of her adulthood on the bookish side of the internet, I want to partake in one of my favourite BookTube tags: The Mid-Year Freakout Tag.

This tag was designed to wrap up the reading year so far and share excitement for the second half of the year. I’ve modified some of the questions. Like I said, I am not a reviewer. I’m not going to share star ratings or talk about the books I didn’t like. I want to send some positive love to these authors who have made my reading year.

Best Book of the Year So Far

Funnily, this is the first book I finished this year. Best book is such a hard title to give out, but this book has stayed with me. This is the second book I’ve read and loved by Kristen Hannah, and I can’t wait to read more from her.

Favourite Sequel So Far

I love this series! The characters, the twists: it’s such a unique vibe and I love Juno Dawson’s writing style. I have Queen B on my TBR and am planning on picking up Human Rites soon, but I don’t want this series to end!

Biggest Surprise

I love a bit of Agatha. Iv’e read so many by her and I like to go in completely blind. What surprised me about this one was the seance element. Overall, I loved the setting, vibe and story.

A Book That Made You Cry

I think this has made half the population cry this year. I’d meant to read this for the longest time, then got around to it finally to see the movie with my boyfriend. Apparently I accidentally spoiled it for him for not crying at the movie, only because I’d already cried at the book the day before.

A Book That Made You Laugh

I love Sophie Irwin’s books! My favourite is still A Lady’s Guide to Scandal (I screamed when Melville was mentioned in this btw) but the dynamic between these characters and the moments between them made me laugh out loud.

A New Release You Can’t Wait To Read

This is one of the most talked about books of the year, and I’m going to join that conversation. The premise of this sounds incredible, and I’ve heard amazing things about it. I can’t wait to pick it up and read it.

A Book on my TBR To Get To This Year

I’ve actually started this one, and I love it! I’m not that far into it but this could already be one of my favourite books of the year.
