A few months ago, I decided if I wanted to make my dreams come true, I needed to take them seriously. In this blog post, I will share my thoughts on how I’ve integrated social media and self-promo into my life.

On 8th July 2026, I posted my first blog on this site. Not long before that, I started an Instagram account to share my achievements and other bits about my WIP books.

I’m only about a toe past the starting line, but adding social media into my daily routine has already proven to be a learning curve. I haven’t gone viral, which is to be expected. Some of my posts do well, others don’t. Either way, I’m happy to have taken these steps in my career.

So, I wanted to chat this week about how I’ve added social media and this kind of self promo to my weekly routine. I have lots of thoughts, and if sharing your work/life is something you’ve considered doing, you might find this interesting.

Most days, I really can’t be bothered

Posting takes more energy than I thought. I’m getting more on top of it with planning content ahead of time, but if I see in my notebook it’s a day where I need to be actively filming or taking photos, I procrastinate it all day. For example, I am currently writing a blog post instead of filming content.

And I really don’t like being on camera

I am not very present on my page at all. I’m okay with the odd photo. In the end, I want to appear human to the people who find my page. I also cannot act like a person in front of a camera, but have enjoyed thinking of all the faceless content I’ve made.

Reels are scary!!!

But they tend to perform well! I spend enough time scrolling reels, so I know they’re a great way to get my page out to my future readers. I’m still learning about filming and editing, but I’m getting there.

I judge myself more than people judge me

Which is probably why I struggle with reels and showing my face all the time. I overthink every word I write, every image I capture, every song I put in the background of a carousel.

But it can be really fun

Yes, it is exhausting and revealing and I hate my face, but I like it. If I didn’t, I’d have stopped. I like editing photos and brainstorming ideas. I love using my blog as a ranting space (as you can tell) and seeing what my friends are writing too.

People can be nice!

I know social media is known for its hatred, but I’m in this lovely stage where my content is reaching followers who reach out and are super nice! These are my friends and fellow rising artists, and I love it when they comment on my page and I can comment on theirs too.

I do feel like an imposter

But who doesn’t! This is just the start, and even though I’m still getting used to this, I’m loving this new habit for me.

And I feel like I can really do this

I knew I needed a public page for a long time, and I’m so glad I finally have one. Hopefully this work leads to good things for me, my connections and my career, and I can’t wait to connect with more people and share more about my writing.

  1. […] put my social media on there for my public page, because that’s been doing really well since last week’s post, and maybe a silly game. I won’t have to bring my iPad to the post office, can check my bank […]
